Queenslander David Clark broke through for his maiden V8 Dirt Modified Feature win on Saturday night (Oct 15) with victory in the 20-lap main event at Toowoomba's Charlton Raceway. In conditions that could be best described as arctic, Clark held off Andrew Pezzutti and Kevin Britten for a very well deserved win.
"It's been a long time coming" said the relieved race winner. "It was good to get out there for the first race of the season and get a good result"
Clark got the jump on pole-sitter Kevin Britten on the opening lap and retained the lead for the ensuing 20-laps, although he was pressured for the entire distance by a determined Andrew Pezzutti.
"I knew the track would be pretty fast so I made sure I got in front of Kevin early" offered Clark. "I knew there was a car there (second), but I had no idea who it was. It would have been great to have a bit more of a side by side battle with Andrew because I know he is a great driver. But I was happy to stay out in front at that point"

Brockville, ONT – October 17, 2010 – Just needing to start the feature race to clinch the overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Championship on Sunday afternoon at Brockville Ontario Speedway, Tim Sears Jr. closed out a storybook season with his sixth series victory of the 2010 campaign in the headline ‘Global Warranty DIRTcar NE Fall Nationals BOB FM Radio 50’ finale. The second-generation driver from Clay, N.Y. fell one victory shy of tying the single-season tour win mark yet 10 top-3 finishes in 12 extra-distance events provided more than enough to claim the coveted crown in convincing fashion. “Going for the Mr. DIRTcar title just kind of fell into place for us this season,” remarked, Sears, 18, who ended the season with 16 checkered flags, only one series win short of matching Joe Williams count of seven established in 2007. “We just put ourselves in good positions and it all worked out really nice.” “Never would’ve believed winning six series races. My dad and uncle Tom (Sears) worked to give me a great car and my grandparents helped me a lot pitching in with some money. We don’t have any sponsors so we’re doing it all on our own. That’s probably what makes this whole deal so special,” said Sears, following his first full season chasing the division’s biggest prize aboard the family-owned no. 83x Total Site Development/Bicknell.. Last Saturday’s Syracuse Super DIRT Week Sportsman winner Ryan Susice settled for second after charging from 20th, while Justin Wright finished third ahead of Ontario favorites Shane Pecore and Chris Herbison. |

Brockville, ONT – Oct. 16, 2010 – Big-Block stars dominated the small-block portion of the 2nd Annual Global Warranty DIRTcar Fall Nationals at Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday night with Billy Decker winning the 100-lap main event while runner-up Danny Johnson claimed his fourth overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Championship. Decker’s second straight 358-Modified tour victory earned the Unadilla, N.Y. driver $4,000 yet Johnson’s second-place tally was worth $2,500 and another $10,000 that will be awarded his team during the 2010 DIRTcar Racing Northeast ‘Night of Champions’ Awards Banquet at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in November. Last weekend’s Super DIRT Week SEF Small Engine Fuels 200 winner Stewart Friesen finished third ahead of 26th-place starter Carey Terrance while Decker’s Gypsum Express teammate Pat Ward rounded out the Top-5 on a cool night in the Thousand Islands region of Ontario, Canada. “My hats off to a great team, Mike Payne (owner) worked so hard this season to accomplish this, thank God we got this one for him,” said Johnson, following his first Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified title since the start of the new millennium. Johnson is also a four-time overall Mr. DIRTcar points champion in the Big-Block Modified ranks. “No one deserves it more than he does.” “We’ve been on fire all year, still have to credit Mike. We’ve had some bad luck and made some bad choices along the way but overall we’ve made more good choices and got some good results. It’s great to get recognized by DIRT, (championship) is what we strive for. Now we get to take our car to the banquet and get more exposure there, that’s what it’s all about,” Johnson added. |

Brockville, ONT – October 17, 2010 – Danny Johnson has a knack for the dramatic, shadowing his competition right until the end before making his final move in traffic to seize another series victory. Super DIRTcar Series points leader Matt Sheppard was the latest victim of Johnson’s late-race heroics, getting caught up beside a back marker with just four laps to go to hand over the lead and surprise win to the ‘Doctor’ in the 2nd Annual Global Warranty DIRTcar Notheast Fall Nationals on Sunday at Brockville Ontario Speedway. Steering owner Mike Payne’s potent small-block powered Honeoye Auto Parts no. 7z Currier Plastics-Waste Management-Rochester Americans/Bicknell ride for a second straight night, Johnson closed out his best weekend of the season with a $6,000 triumph in Brockville’s 2010 season finale. “The way things are going, it might not be a bad idea racing here every week,” smiled Johnson, 50, after scoring his second series victory of the season ---both on Canadian soil--- which brought his weekend total to $8,500 at the BOS. His runner-up finish the night before in the 100-lap 358-Modified main event secured him the overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Championship, worth another $10,000 for the native Rochester, New Yorker. “I was right on Matt and he knew it. Was pressuring him and he tried to go inside on the lapped car and got squeezed. They came together inside the corner and he got out of control and I went by him. You just never know what to do coming into traffic and there’s only a split second to make a decision. Matt went hard low and then things just went our way,” remarked Johnson, who slipped under Brett Hearn who got boxed behind traffic in turn three of the final lap to claim the Super DIRT Week 358-Modified show last weekend at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park. |

FULTON, NY October 1, 2010 (By Dave Me dler/ Tom Skibinski) The impossible was pulled off Friday at the Fulton Speedway by the track prep crew. On Thursday night through Friday morning 3.45 inches of rain fell on the Fulton area, with nobody giving the speedway a chance to run night one of the 25th annual “Outlaw 200” weekend. What seemed like an insurmountable task was pulled off and racing went off as scheduled.
For the second time this season Dave Marcuccilli outlasted runner-up Tim Sears Jr. to take top honors in a Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Championship Series event.
However, one more lap and the order of finish may have been reversed on this occasion as Marcuccilli staved off a last lap dash by current tour points leader Sears to capture the headline ‘SUNY Canton Outlaw 30 presented by 2011 Motorsports Expo’ by a mere 0.103-sec. on Friday night at Fulton Speedway. “I started up front and didn’t know where anybody else was running,” said Marcuccilli, after picking up his second Series victory in flag-to-flag fashion, once again crossing the line ahead of Sears to match the All-Star Weekend outcome at Cayuga County Fair Speedway in July. The Cayuga, N.Y. driver had not cracked the winner’s circle since.
“At the end I just kept seeing the 83 car (Sears) climbing up the leader board. I was a little worried about him, one more lap he might’ve gotten me. I got a little loose getting in (last lap) and he peeked underneath, but I was on the outside and just had the momentum,” noted Marcuccilli, following his first career Sportsman win at Fulton where Sears racked up a season-best five in 2010. |

Fabulous warm weather, a pit area filled with the top driving stars on the East Coast, a standing room only crowd with the best racing fans in America and a speedway groomed to absolute perfection laid the groundwork for the completion of the greatest season in the history of the Accord Speedway over the weekend as the Palmer Family presented the King of the Catskills weekend spectacular to the racing community. With temperatures hovering in the low 80’s, the gentle breezes sweeping through the Ulster County peaks and valleys gave way to the crack of hot rod racing cars cranking up in the early afternoon as the race teams made their final preparations for the weekend of racing ahead of them. When the final curtain fell on Friday evening, the Rochester, New York doctor of speed and excitement Danny Johnson drove his Mike Payne owned Waste Management sponsored chariot into the Lucas Oil Products Victory Lane amidst his many fans awaiting him after his dominating triumph at the speedway, his third of the 2010 racing season at Accord and his biggest win to date at the Ulster County facility. Johnson claimed a $7,000.00 prize in the WLR Construction sponsored event, and the win carried some valuable points as “The Doctor” remains in the hunt for the ROC Dirt title with one race remaining on the schedule. |

Billy Pauch of Frenchtown, NJ needed to win both 20 lap Modified features on Saturday night at New Egypt Speedway to put himself in position to win his 5th track championship. This is exactly what he did, as he dominated the evening sweeping both ends of Twin 20's on Championship night sponsored by C & S Equipment. However, defending champ Rick Laubach took care of business on his end, posting two top five finishes clinching his second consecutive track title. "I didn't want to get caught up in the points tonight," stated Pauch in victory lane, "I knew what we had to do and I just wanted to go out and win both races and let the chips fall where they may." Laubach was elated after finishing second in the nightcap to capture the 2010 crown, "My goal was to finish in the top five in both races tonight and take home the title, and everything worked out great." |
